VA PUGET SOUND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
Prime consultant; led team of architectural, structural, and civil subconsultants; full mechanical and electrical engineering and design, project management, construction administration.
Säzän Group was the prime consultant for a $9 million upgrade to the medium-voltage electrical distribution system serving twelve buildings at the Seattle VA medical center campus. The upgrade included replacing the old 5 kV distribution equipment and two secondary unit substations with new 13.8 kV, 5 mVA substation and associated distribution switchgear designed to parallel two 2.5 mW engine-generators with the serving utility; five padmount utilization transformers; and 15 kV underground distribution cabling. Work included a detailed existing conditions study and power study of the campus buildings.
Project also included design and construction of a new 3,100 SF building to house two 2.5 mW engine-generators and 15 kV distribution switchgear to replace the antiquated 5 kV facilities and equipment.
The project required detailed scheduling of multiple tasks and careful phasing of the work to ensure hospital systems were online and powered throughout the construction period.
